    Quality and speed

    AVIF compresses very well, but it takes longer to make than other formats, so a large image can take a few seconds. The first AVIF conversion also downloads the encoder (about 3.4 MB), which your browser keeps for next time. Use the quality slider (default 60) to balance size and detail: for photos, 50–65 is usually indistinguishable from the original. Modern browsers all show AVIF, but older software and some social networks don't, so keep the original if you need it elsewhere.
