Remainder, fraction or decimal?
Take 22 ÷ 7:
- With remainder: 7 goes into 22 three times (3 × 7 = 21), with 1 left over: 3 remainder 1.
- As a fraction: 22/7, or as a mixed number 3 1/7.
- As a decimal: about 3.142857. The digits repeat forever, so the answer is rounded.
When the division comes out exactly, such as 1 ÷ 8 = 0.125, you get the exact value without rounding.
Dividing by zero
Dividing by 0 is not possible: no number times 0 gives 22. The calculator tells you so instead of showing "infinity". Dividing fractions? Use divide fractions.
