When is gzip useful?
Gzip works very well on text-based files such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, CSV and log files, which often become a fraction of their size. It does little for files that are compressed already, such as JPG photos, MP3 audio or ZIP files.
Compression level
Pick Fast, Normal or Maximum. A higher level makes a smaller file but takes longer; for a single file you'll rarely notice the wait.
