Making a good QR code

  • Error correction (L, M, Q or H) sets how much of the code can be damaged or covered and still scan. Higher levels make a denser code. M suits most uses; use H if you plan to add a logo.
  • Colours: dark on light scans best. A light code on a dark background isn't read by many scanners, and the tool warns about low contrast.
  • Transparent background makes the PNG or SVG easy to place on a coloured design.
  • Choose the PNG size, or download the SVG to print at any size without blur.

A QR code can hold roughly 2,900 characters at the lowest error correction, but shorter is better: less data means a simpler code that scans faster, so short links work best.
