Step by step

Sepia turns the image into a range of warm browns. At 100% the image is fully sepia; a lower strength blends in some of the original colour for a subtle warm tint.

Tips

Sepia suits portraits, landscapes and anything you want to look nostalgic. It works best on images with a good range of light and dark, so raise the contrast a little if the result looks flat. Add a vignette for a fully vintage look, or try the ready-made Vintage filter in the photo filters.

What is sepia?

Sepia was the brown ink and, later, the toning process used for old photographs. The filter imitates that warm brown monochrome look.

Will the quality suffer?
