Amount and radius
- Amount (0–300%) is how strongly edges are emphasised. 100% is a good start; go higher for very soft images.
- Radius (1–6 px) is how wide the emphasis spreads around an edge. A small radius sharpens fine detail such as hair and text; a larger one gives edges more punch but can produce light or dark halos.
What sharpening can't do
Sharpening increases the contrast along edges, so it makes an image look sharper. It can't bring back detail that was never there: a photo that is out of focus or blurred by movement stays that way. Too much sharpening adds halos and makes noise more visible, so use the Hold to compare button to check.
Sharpen last: do your resizing and colour changes first. If you are making the image smaller, shrink it first and sharpen afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
Can sharpening fix a blurry photo?
Only a slightly soft one. It boosts contrast at the edges, which looks sharper, but it can't recover detail from a photo that is truly out of focus.
Will the quality suffer?
No. The download has the same resolution as your original, unless the tool changes the size itself. Save as PNG to keep every detail, or as JPG or WebP for a smaller file.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser. Your image never leaves your device and is not stored.
